Nested, stacked or shingled caps can stop a cap feeder from presenting one usable closure at a time, even when the basic cap size appears suitable for automatic feeding.

Nested caps must be separated before reliable orientation can happen.

Cap nesting and shingling happen when closures overlap, sit inside one another or travel as a doubled pair instead of a single cap. A feeder then has to separate the fault, reject it or prevent it earlier in the feed path before the capper receives the wrong presentation.

The risk depends on skirt depth, wall thickness, cap profile, hinge or flip-top features, friction, bulk storage, drop height and recirculation route. A short demonstration may miss the problem if it does not include normal production quantities and stop/restart behaviour.

Can a cap feeder run if caps sometimes nest?

Possibly, but the route must be tested with representative quantities. The feeder may need a separation feature, reject route, different bulk handling method or a different orientation approach if nesting is frequent or hard to clear.

Why send more than a few samples for nesting checks?

Nesting is a bulk behaviour. A small handful of ideal caps may look acceptable, while a production bag can reveal bridging, doubled caps, variation or scuffing after recirculation.
