A cap feeder trial should answer a defined handling question.

A cap feeder trial should test whether representative production caps can be separated, orientated, delivered and recovered in the condition required by the capper. The trial should define the required outlet orientation, sample range, known difficult caps, scuffing limits, chute or pick-point behaviour and the evidence needed for quotation.

A useful trial is not simply “run some caps”. It should include a clear decision to make: whether a bowl can orientate the cap, whether a pump tube can be controlled, whether a decorative finish is at risk, or whether the handover route needs a different method.

Questions that make a cap trial more useful.

How many cap samples should be sent?

Send enough representative caps to show real bulk behaviour, not just a handful for measuring. The useful quantity depends on the cap size, variation and test aim; include multiple bags or batches if the cap can vary in production.

Are photos enough for a trial?

Photos help with early discussion, but physical caps are normally needed to assess separation, nesting, centre of gravity, scuffing, bounce and chute behaviour. Include photos of the current capper and line space as supporting evidence.

Does a sample trial prove the whole production line?

No. A feeder trial can reduce handling risk, but the installed line still needs commissioning with the actual capper, controls, operators and production conditions. Treat the trial as route evidence, not a complete site acceptance test.

What happens if a cap does not trial well?

A poor trial is still useful. It can show that the route needs different tooling, lower impact handling, a different orientation method, a controlled presenter, cap design feedback or a review of the downstream handover.
